The X-Files is off to a strong start with this episode. We're introduced to the premise, that there are unexplained cases, usually with some kind of sci-fi or supernatural connection, that the FBI sweeps under the rug because they're not easily solved. We're also introduced to the characters. Mulder is eager to prove that the truth is out there, while Scully is the skeptic. While it seems like they might clash, their first case reveals that they complement each other instead. There are also hints that Mulder is right, and that there is a larger conspiracy at work that he hasn't discovered yet. It's a perfect introduction that definitely makes you want to keep watching.
